Houdini is a very handsome, dark chocolate male out of our 4th and final litter between FC GRHRCH UH Maestro MH and Maggie MH25!

We always knew we wanted to keep a male from this incredible pairing, and we are so happy we kept Houdini. He is simply perfect! We consider Houdini to have the ultimate personality! Houdini is a working machine that has a huge heart! He gives 110% to everything he does. Houdini is very adaptable and is always a “favorite” wherever he goes. He has a very strong natural on/off. In the house, Houdini is very calm and so easy. He gets along with everyone and is a true pleasure to have around.

Raider the total package! He is a handsome male that is extremely talented in the field. He loves to work and can be described as a marking fool.  He earned his Master Hunter titled shortly after turning 3 years old in 2017.  Raider has a confident, happy, loving disposition and lives as part of the family when not in training. Raider’s pedigree is truly second to none! His sire is the 2011 National Amateur winner NAFC FC AFC Cody Cut a Lean Grade. Raider’s dam is Molly B Ringo MH (FC AFC Dare to Dream X MH daughter of AFC Hawkeye Viking).

Raider is one of the most extensively health tested studs out there! We go above and beyond to ensure that our dogs and their offspring have the absolute best chance of being healthy!

Yogi is an extremely well bred dark chocolate male with an “old blood” pedigree. Yogi is the true total package! He is high drive in the field and loves to work. He was professionally trained by Rusty Haglund (Trigger Time Kennels) and earned his Master Hunter title as a 2 year old!  Yet when it comes to time in the house, Yogi is great at turning off the energy. He is a wonderful companion and so easy to have around the house. Yogi has never met a stranger and gets along with everyone! Yogi is a proven producer of puppies that are extremely versatile and talented!

Buzz is currently home in Bemidji, Minnesota. He will be going back down to Ohio and Mississippi with his trainer Carolyn Elam around February 1st to work on getting him master titled and upland titled. Buzz is now available for stud service. In Minnesota we can do natural or side-by-side AH. We are working on making fresh chilled an option when he is in Minnesota. When he is with Carolyn the options are natural, side-by-side or fresh chilled semen. 

Buzz will be permanently moving to Bemidji, Minnesota after he finishes getting the titles we are pursuing.

 After searching for years to find the right fox red male to add to our home and breeding program, we found Buzz! Buzz is an absolutely beautiful dark fox red male that has been raised and trained by Carolyn Elam of Blazing Red Kennels. Buzz was raised in her home and loved as a member of the family. Buzz absolutely loves to work and hunt!! In 2024 he started his UKC hunt test career. He is very calm and focused on the line. So much so that a 9 year old girl got to handle him for his Started Hunter title. As a 2 year old, Buzz was a pheasant guide dog all winter. He earned his HRCH title early in 2025, then earned his SH title over the summer then returned to being a pheasant guide dog in the fall. We decided to bring him home for a few months to get to know him personally. Our plan is to pursue a Master Hunter and Upland Hunter titles in 2026. 

In November, I drove down to Ohio to meet Buzz and then bring him home for a few months. While there I was able to go on a pheasant hunt with him as the guide dog. Talk about a beast! Buzz absolutely loves upland hunting and it is so easy to see why he was one of Carolyn’s go-to guide dogs. He does a phenomenal job! 

Since bringing him home I have been completely amazed. You would think bringing an intact adult male into a home with multiple dogs would be a challenge or at least there would need to be an adjustment period. The reality was that he fit right in and everyone (meaning all the dogs) accepted him like he has always been a part of our family. No adjustment period needed. This is a testament to how Carolyn raised, trained and socialized him. Buzz is very calm in the house and has a huge desire to please. He is a pure joy to have around. He is extremely affectionate, happy all the time, gentle with me and the younger dogs despite his size. He is just so easy. In my opinion, Buzz is about as perfect as they can be.

Mojo is the result of literally years of research and planning! He has one of the most unique pedigrees of any chocolate out there today!!!  You simply will not find another like him! His bloodlines are loaded with some of the best field trial dogs in history, yet you will not find another chocolate dog for over 10 generations! Mojo is a handsome, muscular chocolate male that absolutely lives for the retrieve. He is a beast in the field and can easily be described as a machine. Mojo runs hard, marks well and simply doesn’t give up. He uses his nose and quarters naturally. In the fall Mojo is an active waterfowl and upland hunting dog. We train in the spring and summer and he thrives with daily work. Mojo lives in the house and is just an easy dog to have around.

Loki is a very handsome, dark chocolate male out of the legendary FC AFC CFC CAFC Barracuda Blue MH!

Loki was unplanned addition to Bird Dog Labs in 2015. We saw an incredible opportunity and jumped when we had the chance. Loki matured into an extremely handsome boy with a phenomenal disposition. He has a very blocky head with a strong yet compact build. He is extremely affectionate and animated in how he likes to interact. You cannot help but laugh at him sometimes. In the field Loki marks well, handles and will get the job done. While in training it became clear he did best in a home environment and not in a kennel. So we brought him home and have been thoroughly enjoying him as a hunting dog and companion.  Loki works at a senior level. 

 

SHR Birddog’s Just George JH

George is an absolutely striking, dark yellow male with red highlights. He has always had a presence about him that catches your eyes. George is simply regal looking. George is a happy go lucky boy that absolutely loves to retrieve. As a puppy George was sent to a field trial trainer that ended up not being a good experience. It caused many issues that resulted in set backs with his performance. Once George was pulled from that trainer, he spent some time at home getting a chance to just be a dog. With how much George loved to work and retrieve, he was sent to Justin Drake in Texas. Justin has done a wonderful job with getting George back on the right path and is confident he will earn higher titles. .After we are finished pursuing hunt test titles, George will come home and be available for stud services.

Duke is an absolutely gorgeous 85 pound fox red male! He is the sweetest boy and is as loyal as they come. Duke lives with my parents and literally goes everywhere with my dad. Duke will do absolutely anything for my dad. He retrieves multiple times a day and is his hunting dog in the fall. Duke has the ultimate type of temperament and gets along with everyone. He is very affectionate and goes out of his way to please. Duke has the type of personality that many people are looking for. He is the perfect hunting dog and family companion. He also has a strong natural on/off. He is in tuned to the people around him regarding emotions and automatically wants to sooth and please people. Duke could easily be a therapy dog or perform service work. The fact that he is also extremely handsome also helps!

Theo is an absolutely beautiful dark fox red male with the sweetest personality. Theo is known a ” good ol’ boy.” He is just so easy going and easy to be around.  Theo also has perfect health clearances. After he is titled, he will be coming home and be offered at stud.

Axel is the result of a true fox red field trial breeding and it shows! There is nothing this boy can’t or won’t do! Axel is an absolute power house in a more compact body. He is always eager to do what is asked of him and never gives up. Axel is currently in Texas preparing to run masters this fall/winter 2025. When his titling is complete, Axel will come home and be available for stud services. 

Breeding Requirements

-AKC or UKC registration – Copy of pedigree
-OFA Excellent, Good or Fair Hips
-OFA Normal Elbows and Eyes (CAER)
-All females must be clear of RD/OSD. This is a disease where just one carrier parent can produce affected puppies. All of our dogs are tested clear of RD/OSD.
-Negative brucellosis within 30 days for natural breeding.

-If you are wanting to use one of our studs that is a carrier of Stargardt (Houdini and Buzz) or CMS (George) then we will need proof that your female is tested clear before breeding. 

-Prefer if EIC, CNM, PRA-pcrd status is known.

-Absolutely NO dilutes, carriers of dilute or breeders of dilutes will be accepted.

~In the event where dilute status is questionable, proof of “DD” genotype will be required before the litter registration is signed.

We love the Labrador breed and only support the ethical breeding for the traditional colors accepted by the Labrador Retriever Club. This includes blacks, yellows ranging from light cream to fox red and chocolates ranging from light to dark. No other colors or variations are acceptable.
