Birddog’s Ebonstar Blast of Trinity SH X Birddog’s The Duke (Yellows/Fox Reds) – After much consideration we decided to do one final litter with Kimber and knew that Duke was the way we wanted to go. This litter is geared to be on the calmer side,yet still have the intelligence and drive for some types of work. Think weekend warrior type of hunting, therapy work, service work and the ultimate family friendly type temperaments. These puppies will likely be on the larger side, with big blocky heads. Birddog’s Beat of a Wild Heart “Cadence” X Birddog’s Wetland Raider MH! (Yellows/Fox Reds). We are thrilled to share the news that Cadence has passed all of her official health clearances! We have decided to go with our very own Birddog’s Wetland Raider MH for her first litter. We expect this will be early 2026. These will be absolutely gorgeous yellow/fox red working dogs that will also make outstanding family dogs! Cadence has finally come in heat after a year! This will happen sometime later in 2025 or into 2026. Both of these crosses will produce puppies will have the ability to go any direction, while still having an outstanding family friendly temperament. HRCH Birddog’s Goodtime Magic Man MH “Houdini” – CHOCOLATE ~ In our opinion, Houdini is one of the nicest overall young chocolate males out there today. He has always been easy going at home with a can do attitude. Houdini goes out of his way to connect and please his people. In the field he is intense. Houdini runs hard and fast and doesn’t miss much of anything that is going on. He is always determined to get the job done! The fact that he is absolutely gorgeous is just another bonus! Houdini is simply everything we wanted when we did the final breeding between FC GRHRCH WBF’s Man On The Stand MH and Birddog’s Goodtime Magnet MH25. SHR Birddog’s Just George JH “George” ~YELLOW~ George is a beautiful high drive athletic yellow male. He was our keeper puppy from the litter between 2xNFC 2xCNFC FC Truline’s Just Floyd and Birddog’s Ebonstar Blast of Trinity SH “Kimber”. George is currently down in Texas training with Justin Drake. George was initially sent to a field trial trainer and it was not a good experience. Due to this, Justin has been working very hard with George to get him back on the right path. HRCH Smoke’s Blazing Red Buzzsaw SH “Buzz” ~FOX RED ~ Buzz is an exceptionally good looking, dark fox red male with a different pedigree than anything else that I have. He is out of GRHRCH UH Rexsun Silkey Smoke MH and CHSD SHR Semko’s Heart Of Fire SH DS DSA AJ. Buzz is solid muscle and weighs between 80 and 85 pounds. He is actively running hunt tests with his previous owner and trainer/handler Carolyn Elam. Once he earns his senior title, he will immediately move into running masters after that. We are a quality breeder of AKC Labrador Retrievers located in Bemidji, Minnesota. We focus on producing the best all around Lab puppies from champion Field Bred and Hunt Test bloodlines that are healthy and free of hereditary disorders. Our dogs are selected for their natural hunting instincts, desire to please, intelligence, versatility, gentle temperaments, ability to compete in hunt tests and field trials, train-ability, pedigree, health clearances, and attractive physical features.
We take pride in our dogs and with our careful research and selection processes, our puppies should satisfy the most challenging buyer. Our labs are bred to be working dogs and have the potential to excel in any direction. They are also bred to have wonderful dispositions and make great family companions. All of our dogs live in our home and are part of our family. We actively use them for upland and waterfowl hunting, and have started running them in AKC Hunt Tests.
At Bird Dog Labs our love for the Labrador Retriever breed is undeniable. We do everything we can to try and ensure we produce healthy puppies. We go above and beyond when it comes to health testing and it shows. Prior to any breeding all of our dogs are tested for official OFA hips, OFA elbows, OFA eyes, OFA cardiac and 15 different genetic diseases. We have also started the process of testing for OFA Thyroid. We are also 100% dilute free! The results of all of this health testing is readily available online on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website as well as on the Paw Print Genetics Pedigree Database. We offer a 30 month guarantee on Hips & Eyes as well as an unconditional Lifetime Guarantee that all Bird Dog Labs puppies and puppies from our studs are genetically unaffected by the 15 different genetic diseases we test for. We only offer a limited number of litters of puppies per year. We focus on quality and not quantity and believe in having a personal touch. All of our puppies are born and raised in our home and are thoroughly socialized. Our puppies are actually born in our bedroom and stay there until they are between 3 and 4 weeks of age. This way we can ensure that they are safe, clean and comfortable at all times. Not to mention the countless hours of attention they get during the day and late into each night. Once they are 3 to 4 weeks old, we will move them into one of our two puppy nursery rooms where we can expand their box and begin the introduction to potty training. We LOVE our puppies and it shows in their care. We will only breed litters when we can guarantee that each puppy will receive daily individual love and attention. When we have multiple litters on the ground we hire in special daily helpers to ensure that our strict standards of care are always met. Our puppy program is extensive and comprehensive, yet we are continually fine-tuning and looking at ways to incorporate more. At a bare minimum this program includes: early neurological stimulation (called ENS or Biosensor), early scent introduction (ESI), introduction to crates, car rides, birds or bird wings, gunfire from a distance, water (weather permitting), outdoor adventures in different types of environments, daily loud noises, introduction to potty training and lots of socialization with adults, kids and other dogs. We strive to give every puppy the best start possible. By the time they are ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks of age, each puppy should be well prepared for whatever direction their new family takes them.
Our very first litter was in 2009 and then we took a short hiatus from breeding until 2013. Since resuming, we have had tremendous success with our very limited number of litters. To date, our puppies collectively have earned multiple hunt test titles, a QA2 title, Qualifiying JAMs, Derby JAMS, Derby Reserve JAMs and one was the youngest dog in Minnesota to ever become Certified in Advanced Area Search who is now Minnesota’s first FEMA canine. The majority of our puppies have gone to homes where they live as part of the family and have proven themselves as exceptional hunting-working-competition dogs.
